NEW ZEALAND PM ORDERS PROBE INTO CHRISTCHURCH ATTACK

Australia

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced a royal commission to probe into terrorist attacks on two Christchurch mosques.
Ardern, talking to reporters at Parliament House in Wellington, said that no stone should left unturned to get to the bottom of this terrorism act. She said that the inquiry would find whether security agencies focused their attention on the right issues and whether any clues were missed.
She said that the investigation would also include the role of social media in the terrorist act and the suspect’s ability to obtain a weapon. Ardern declined to give a timeframe for the finalisation of terms of reference for the royal commission.
Earlier, at least fifteen thousand people gathered in Christchurch to remember the victims of twin mosques’ terrorist attacks. Rallies were held in Auckland to protest against Islamophobia, and women donned headscarves to express solidarity with Muslims.
New Zealand’s Muslim community has welcomed the announcement of royal commission.
