The UN has said that US and Afghan government forces are killing more civilians than Taliban and other insurgent groups.
The UN said that over 300 civilians were killed by coalition forces this year while 227 were killed by Taliban or other groups.
The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said that causalities have surged after the US stepped up its air strikes.
UN’s quarterly report said that most deaths were caused by the US air strikes or Afghan forces’ ground operations. It said that overall civilian casualties fell by 23 percent to 1,773 in the January-to-March-2019 period.
The report urged both the Afghan and international forces to conduct investigations into allegations of civilian casualties. It asked them to publish the results of their findings and provide appropriate compensation to victims.
