President Donald Trump has defended his aggressive trade policy, insisting China should pay billions of dollars in punitive duties to the US. In a series of Tweets, Trump said the US is “right where it wants to be with China.” He said Beijing “broke the deal with Washington” and then sought to re-negotiate.
Trump’s comments came after his economic advisor Larry Kudlow warned that both sides would suffer.
In an interview, Kudlow said China will be hit by a loss of economic growth and a diminishing export market.
He said no new US-China trade talks have been scheduled, but Trump could meet China’s President Xi Jinping next month.
