Washington and London have differed over whether Iran poses a threat to US troops in Iraq.
The US military has reaffirmed its concerns about possible danger to its forces.
This comes after a senior British commander in the US-led coalition said there is no imminent threat from Tehran in the region.
The US military’s Central Command issued a clarifying statement after the remarks by Major General Chris Ghika.
The Coalition’s deputy commander Ghika was talking to reporters via tele-conference at the Pentagon.
CentCom spokesman Captain Bill Urban said Ghika’s comments run counter to the credible threats available to intelligence.
Despite mounting tensions, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Tehran does not seek war with the US.
