England have defeated South Africa by 104 runs in the opening match of World Cup 2019. Chasing England’s target of 312, the Protease lost all of their wickets in the 40th over.
Playing at the Oval, South Africa Won the toss and elected to field first. Despite losing Jonny Bairstow’s wicket in the 1st over, England managed to set a challenging target of 312 runs. Jason Roy, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes, all scored half-centuries for their team. Stokes top-scored with 89 runs off 79 balls.
England’s pacer Jofra Archer excelled with taking 3 wickets by conceding 27 runs. The Protease’s wickets trembled as they managed only 204 runs. Stokes was declared player of the match for his all-round performance.
England will face Pakistan in their next match while South Africa will be up against Bangladesh.
