US President Donald Trump has ended India’s special trade status that exempts billions of dollars of exports from American tariffs.
India’s preferential market access to the US will be terminated as of June 5.
Trump said India has not assured the US of providing equitable and reasonable access to its markets.
India is the biggest beneficiary of the G-S-P, which allows it preferential duty-free imports of up to 5.6 billion dollars.
India has raised the prospect of higher import duties on more than 20 US goods after being dropped from the program.
