Formula One McLaren driver Carlos Sainz has defended F1 stewards over Sebastian Vettel’s five-second penalty in the Canadian Grand Prix.
Team Ferrari has also decided to meet the stewards at the French Grand Prix after asking for a review of the decision that cost Vettel victory in Canada.
Ferrari’s Vettel started on pole position in the race, and finished first before being demoted to second when the time penalty was added.
The five-second penalty was issued for going off track and returning in what stewards deemed to be an unsafe manner.
Carlos Saiz defended the decision, saying the stewards applied the written rules.
On the other hand, Ferrari will meet F1 stewards for a review of the decision.
The French Grand Prix will be held on June 23rd.
